Glamour Shots

I giggled while watching Comedian Charles McBee's IG post about Glamour Shots. It got me thinking, do Glamour Shots still exist?

There appear to be only a couple of "official" Glamour Shot locations left in the US, who knew!? However, if your experience was anything like mine, your little "G" glamour shots were taken in a basement converted into a photography studio.

As I stepped down into this dimly lit lair, I'd soon be transformed into an extra from Designing Women.

The bright red lipstick accentuated my budding mustache and pre-braced gap-laden smile. My gigantic hair curled up big, full, and tight in an outdated fashion even for the late 90s.

And the sultry, mysterious finish of the photos could only be recreated by the billowed drags of the Caterpillar's hookah from Alice and Wonderland.

My adult self thinks of all the necks that Boa dangled from, but at the time, my preteen self felt equal parts fabulous and awkward.

In hindsight, these shoots seem like a bizarre, distant, and seemingly frozen-in-time hazy (literally) memory.

I appreciated the opportunity to dress up since I had already ended my dress-up phase. But as young girls, it's second nature. As grown women, we need time to dress up and be carefree - to play and enjoy ourselves.

When was the last time you played dress-up?
