Magic in the Mirror

My back has not received the memo that I'm still incredibly youthful and spry. I was reminded of this with a visit to the urgent care.

One after another, three gorgeous and delightful Black Women with pleasant bedside manners entered the room - the nurse, the nurse practitioner, and the physician. I felt as though I had entered the Black Lady Courtroom!

I have no interest in the medical field personally - the sight of blood makes my knees weak - but how powerful the experience felt.

Does representation really matter? Absolutely! When we see someone with our race, size, age, story, body, income, conditions, gender, orientation, trauma, addictions, family, or from our town, etc., it stirs the maybes within. If them, then why not me?

We can look to these examples, or we can be those examples for other people. We are full of wonder, creativity, potential, and possibilities, yet we need to see ourselves. There is magic in the mirror.

Do not underestimate your impact, necessity, power, or influence.
