Has anyone checked out the movie, My Old Ass on Prime?

It had me at the title; I was tickled by the name alone, and I figured it deserved a closer look.

(There are no spoilers. I promise.)

The main character, Elliott, takes mushrooms on her 18th birthday and is visited by her 39-year-old self or, in other words, her Old Ass.

Akin to a wise-cracking Ghost of Christmas Future, she dishes out several lessons.

The premise intrigued me. Of course, I would have figured by 39; I'd be a Professional basketball-playing nun, screenwriting poet-artist, and social advocate who plays the piano, teaches theology, and is married with five kids and an adoring husband. That does a little breakdancing on the side for fun.

But if I had the chance, I would also dish out a few lessons to my younger self. I'd tell myself...

Ask someone other than your driver's ed instructor how you know when you're in love.

Spend less time hyperfocused on your weight. Because baby, at some point, you pack it on. So, appreciate and love where you are every step in the process.

Listen to your mom, and don't play Lift Every Voice and Sing on the piano in front of your school with zero lessons under your belt.

Lace up your Converses and run as fast as possible from some especially rank gentleman callers.

Don't loan your books to your cousin. She's gonna destroy the covers.

But most importantly, I'd tell myself to remember your worth. Sometimes, life has a way of eroding you, of making you small. So take up space. SO MUCH SPACE, and remember your name.

Can you trace back to the exact point you lost yourself? Or were there multiple events?

Well, there is still time to follow your own advice. And maybe your younger self has a thing to teach you as well.
