The Wolf, the Lamb, and the GOAT

"The tyrant will always find a pretext for his tyranny." - Aesop's Fables, The Wolf and the Lamb.
I'd love to say I read this in a book, but the truth is, I heard it on a Law & Order SVU episode, and it has always stuck with me.
This quote came to mind as the US Olympic team racked up medals. I'd love to say I understood this feeling, but my personal gymnastic career was short-lived. Even shorter was my ability to hold my own weight up on the bars. I digress.
It struck me that we're discussing her hair while Simone Biles is making history.
The reality is that you can literally be the greatest of all time (GOAT), and people will still find something.
Call it jealousy, unfulfillment, unhappy, bored, or mean—you may call it whatever you like. But first, call into question the person who's saying it and consider the source.
People who have already decided to hurt, judge, or dislike you, why should we expend any energy trying to convince them otherwise? Why would we ever care to prove ourselves to folks that have proven themselves to be - well, assholes?
Remember that certain people will always find something to say, whether you are the worst or the best. So, instead of focusing on other people's opinions, focus on sticking the landing.
