"A Little Princess" Taught Me...

My goodness, this is a lovely movie. I'd vehemently disagree with anyone who fixes their mouth to suggest it is merely a "kids" movie.

"A Little Princess," My Friends, is a delightful film drenched in fanciful stories and beautiful cinematography. It is rich in friendship, sisterhood, love, hope, compassion, and justice. It is thoroughly layered with imagination and whimsy juxtaposed with loss, heartache, mean-spiritedness, and drama with a deliciously complex storyline.

From her adventures in India to the shores of New York, Sara Crewe is dropped off at the same boarding school that her deceased mother attended since her father, Capt. Crewe, is bound for WWI.

Our Worth is Innate. I am a princess...All girls are! Even if they live in tiny old attics, even if they dress in rags, even if they aren't pretty, or smart, or young, they're still princesses - all of us! - Sara Crewe

Is your crown in the lost and found, on layaway, at a pawn shop, tarnished, or have you just forgotten that you own one. Our crowns are not something we can earn or lose. We just are. All women are princesses; it is our right. - Maya

We Get to Change the Ending. I couldn't bear to see Charlotte marry that awful man, so I imagined a different ending. - Sara Crewe

Our Character is What Defines Us - Not Things. Things can change instantly for the better or worse, so practice gratitude and make the best of it.

How people treat us often has more to do with how they feel about themselves. The Headmistress, Miss Minchin, was a cruel, hard woman, but it did not take long to realize that she was so nasty because she was merely unhappy and miserable. She seemingly could not bear the joy and imagination of a young girl who "has everything."

Sometimes, a smile on your face is enough to ruin someone's day. It gives a new meaning to kill them with kindness. Whether someone likes you or not that's none of your business.

Justice Has No Age. We get to question the establishment and welcome good trouble if it means standing up for what's right.

Imagination is Everything. There were days I thought I would die until I heard you talk about the magic. - Becky
Our lives, void of imagination, are colorless.

Leave Room for the Magic. Magic has to be believed. It's the only way it's real. - Capt. Crewe

We Need Each Other. Let's make a promise right now: to always look out for each other. - Sara Crewe

When we have friends, it often makes even the darkest of times feel bearable.

I hope this kindles your heart.
