What's Your Filling?

For some ridiculous reason, I decided to have a heaping serving of homemade mashed potatoes and then went for a walk immediately afterward.

Needless to say, I felt heavy. As if I was pulling myself in a wheelbarrow.

The mashed potatoes were amazing, by the way; thanks for asking.

Upon this labored walk, I came upon a yard that reminded me of the infamous windchime garden in the Harriet the Spy movie.

It took much restraint not to go frolicking in said yard. It was beautiful. A whimsical leaf-lined trail led into a wooded area just beyond the yard.

(The last time I endeavored on such an adventure, I emerged from the woods to discover a tick on my chest later in the day in the shower.)

The child in me wanted to proceed on the trail to discover the adventure beyond my eyeline. But the adult in me said, "Fool, you want to be kidnapped after acquiring Lyme disease.

Well, I opted to listen to the latter, rounded the street at the dead end, and turned around.

It got me thinking—I never want to lose the part of myself that is curious about life and all its adventures.

But when I fill myself with fear, self-doubt, and negative self-talk, attempt to walk through life, and then wonder why I feel so heavy and bogged down, I give myself just enough energy to reach a dead end.

Don’t let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or your curiosity. – Dr. Mae Jemison
