Where's Base?
Remember playing tag?
I remember my thighs eating my shorts as I lagged behind; nonetheless, it was still entertaining. Before the game began, first and foremost, the base was established.
The base could be anything, but the rules were simple: if you reached the base, you were safe.
Finally, you could catch your breath.
Where's your base?
You deserve a soft or safe place when you need to catch your breath. That doesn't mean you don't care about the state of the world or your household.
But in this version of the story, we will believe our inner Chicken Little when the sky feels like it's falling around our community, county, or personal life.
Where's your base?
Often, we feel guilty when our gazes turn from other-focused. Let's drop the shame.
What good is it to recognize, work, and fight for the full humanity and dignity of others if we can not recognize or honor our own? You're a whole damn person, not just a parent, not just a mate, not just an activist, not just a news-hound.
Self-care isn't all yoni steaming and milk rose baths; self-care is knowing when to run to base.
Allow the rays to graze ALL of your branches. Tend to all of you. The more you tend to yourself, the better you will be in all the areas, places, and loved one's lives that you show up as "It."
Establish a base.
What person, place, thing, or activity makes you feel safe or helps you catch your breath, if only for a moment?
